Mike Byrnes is an independent filmmaker/photographer who spends much of his time working outdoors and in the backcountry. His most recent passion has been the Canadian Rockies, where he has shot pieces on backcountry lodges, ice climbing, ski touring and hiking.

In the 1990s he produced a series of multimedia programs for Discovery Channel, followed by a series of short films focusing on history and science for educational publisher Don Johnston, Inc.

Mike's work has taken him through much of Europe, parts of Africa and Asia, and to 47 American states and all ten Canadian provinces. He has climbed Kilimanjaro, explored the Acropolis, and joined the 6th New Hampshire Volunteers in a Civil War re-enactment. More recently Mike completed filming his first feature-length dramatic film ("Shattered" 2007) and his first documentary ("Drugs are not the Problem" 2008). Mr. Byrne uses the Adventure K4L for day trips and the Adventure K5 for longer treks.
